Chestnut flour — gluten-free, a superior alternative to popular wheat flour. It offers more nutritional value, a lower glycemic index, and excellent versatility. Simply ideal!

How is it made?

Chestnut flour is made from ground, dried edible chestnuts. Historically, it was a means of survival for impoverished communities. Grinding the fruits of the chestnut tree helped satisfy hunger across much of Europe. To this day, the edible chestnut remains a symbol of prudent foresight. In the Middle Ages, Saint Hildegard wrote about the plant's wonderful properties. Today, recipes utilizing it can be found in diets formulated according to the reformer's guidelines.

Today, the main exporter of this product is Italy, where magnificent plantations can be found, for example, on the Apennine slopes. In Poland, edible chestnuts grow in West Pomerania and Lower Silesia.

What makes organic chestnut flour stand out?

A significant feature for many allergy sufferers is its gluten-free nature. Thanks to its pliability and suitable texture, it successfully replaces wheat flour. The taste reveals delicate nutty notes and a slight sweetness. These aromatic qualities do not hinder its use in savory recipes!

The price of chestnut flour is somewhat higher than other products of its kind. Why? Up to 4 kg of dried chestnuts are used to create just 1 kg of flour. Its organic certification guarantees its highest quality. Moreover, the taste and properties of the final product are well worth the price.

Store the flour in a dry and cool place.

Chestnut Flour for Your Well-being

Who is recommended to use this flour? It contains a significant dose of vitamins A, C, E, and B, is rich in potassium and iron, and is also a source of bioflavonoids, tannins, and folic acid.

This rich nutritional profile may contribute to healthy bodily functions, including vision support and promoting growth in children. Chestnut flour can be enjoyed by various age groups, including infants. Its nutritional content also makes it a valuable addition to the diets of pregnant women and those experiencing menopause.

Its high-quality protein and fibre content are beneficial for the digestive system, contributing to better gut function and prolonged satiety. The presence of iron contributes to normal red blood cell formation. As a source of various nutrients, chestnut flour can be a valuable addition to a balanced diet for overall well-being. Therefore, incorporating chestnut flour into your daily diet is a choice worth considering!

Culinary Applications

The assumption that chestnut flour, due to its nutty aftertaste, is unsuitable for everyday Polish dishes is entirely mistaken. You can successfully make pasta, bread, dumplings, or pancakes with it. It also works wonderfully to thicken soups and sauces. Naturally, it is also well-suited for sweet recipes like cakes, cookies, waffles, and flatbreads. Note — dissolved in milk, it makes an excellent base for chestnut polenta!

Traditional Applications

Naturally, it is also suitable for exotic experiments that transport us straight to sunny Italy. You can prepare traditional specialties from chestnut-rich regions with it:
  • castagnaccio — a typical Italian cake made from chestnut flour, water, olive oil, and nuts;
  • panforte di Siena — an Italian Christmas confection brimming with dried fruits and nuts;
  • necci — chestnut pancakes served in sweet or savory versions;
  • original Italian polenta, similar to the more popular *mamalyga* in Poland, prepared with corn flour.
