Fairtrade International (FLO)
Fairtrade certified product. Fairtrade International (FLO)owns the world's best-known and most widely used Fair Trade certification mark. It applies to a wide range of food products, including coffee, tea, cocoa (and its products, mainly chocolates), cane sugar (and its products), bananas, dried fruits, nuts, etc., as well as cotton. The certification mark is awarded to products if they meet criteria related to ensuring a minimum price, Fairtrade premium, implementing Fair Trade principles related to respect for labor, children's and other rights, entering into contracts on preferential terms for producers.
Fairtrade International has set out quite precise production standards for organizations of small-scale producers, companies and production plantations, as well as standards for trade in the products produced. They are designed to:
provide producers with wages that allow them to cover at least the average cost of production,
provide a premium, earmarked for social purposes,
allow pre-financing for producers who require it,
provide long-term contracts and trade controls to comply with Fair Trade principles.
